Dear Bill:

Senator Tolman, Senator Chang-Díaz and Representative Rushing were in contact with the Department of Conservation and Recreation last Thursday and Friday regarding the snow emergency tickets the State Police issued on Wednesday [Feb 10].  Senator Tolman, Senator Chang-Díaz and Representative Rushing are pleased to inform you, and the Fenway Community, that the Department of Conservation and Recreation has decided to void the tickets in light of the fact the expected storm never arrived.  People who received tickets should simply ignore them; the ticket will be voided centrally by the State Police.

If you should have any further questions regarding this or any other issue please feel free to contact Senator Tolman, Senator Chang-Díaz and Representative Rushing, again.

UPDATED BELOW ON DEC 22

In the East Fenway, most sidewalks have been well cleared (except those for which City or State are resonsible, of course). Some few have not been cleared at all, or only imperfectly. Feel free to add to this list in the comments, and we will update. Do you have any news about West Fenway sidewalks? Also, are curb cuts properly cleared on your block? What about fire hydrants and storm drains? If you have any pictures of poorly cleared sidewalks/hydrants/etc, send them along and we will publish a selection of what we receive.

NOT CLEARED AT ALL:
56 St. Stephen St. – the front is OK, but the Gainsborough St. side is untouched all the way to the alley. Owners of buildings on street intersections are responsible for all of the sidewalks that abut their property, not just those in front.
8, 15, and 41 Symphony Road
Edgerly Road playground – both sides
Westland/Hemenway Park – Hemenway St. side

COULD BE BETTER:
31 Edgerly Road – better than it used to be, but still not up to code. A path at least 42″ wide should be cleared, not just one shovel length.
Symphony Community Gardens – someone obviously used a snowblower here, but not before the storm was over.
Woodies on Hemenway St. – a mediocre job.

ANYTHING TO ADD?

ADDENDUM – Johanna Sena from City Councilor Mike Ross’ office says: I though it would be helpful to know that people should call these in to the Mayor’s 24 Constituent Services. The Code Enforcement Division of Inspectional Services Department (ISD) can then issue fines. The number to call is 617-635-4500.

“Generally the removal [in the West Fenway] has been good. The area bordering McDonald’s on Jersey Street could be a little better.”

“Things are pretty good here in Audubon Circle — except for the Circle itself, where all the traffic islands will soon have well-trodden paths of ice. Cannot imagine how anyone in a wheelchair would manage to cross AC — it’s 250 feet!”
