The following announcement is posted for the RCC Sports Information Center:
BOSTON, MA (November 3, 2009) – Jasmine McNeil of the Roxbury Community College (RCC) Women’s Basketball Team has been named a Pre-Season First-Team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
The sophomore guard is one of ten student-athletes chosen as a First-Team selection. Last season for the Lady Tigers, McNeil averaged 18.7 points, 10.6 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 4.7 steals in 29 games.
“It’s very humbling to be named a Pre-Season All-American,” said McNeil. “I would like to thank the NJCAA for this honor. Along with my teammates, we’re all looking forward to reaching our collective goals this season.”
Head Coach Mark Leszczyk had nothing but praise for his star guard. “I’m very proud of Jasmine for this tremendous accomplishment – and while any type of recognition for our program is welcomed, I look forward to seeing this pre-season accolade backed up with a solid performance during the upcoming season.”
Last season, RCC won the MCCAC (Massachusetts Community College Athletic Conference) Tournament and finished with a 24-5 record overall. RCC ended last season ranked ninth in the NJCAA National Poll.
“With what may be the most challenging schedule of any Junior College program in the Region (NJCAA Region XXI),” Leszczyk continued, “it will be a pleasure to watch our returning sophomores, coupled with a very talented group of freshman, attempt to meet the expectations set for them.”
The RCC Women’s Basketball Team kicks off their regular season on Tuesday, November 3, vs. Quinsigamond Community College at 5 p.m. at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center on the RCC Campus.
